Every year several thousand youths participate in programs of extracurricular international youth work such as sports, theatre or music camps, voluntary services, internships, job shadowing and other sorts of activities. Here they acquire lingual, intercultural or social competences which are also central for their own job-related and personal development.

Often young people are not completely aware of the capabilities they have because they are not acquired in the formal way. They are communicated and learned in non-formal settings. On the other hand such competences are demanded more and more by society and economy.

At this point the certifications international start. They document the participation, the engagement and the displayed competences of youths. With different accentuation it is possible in three designs:

certificate of international participation/ certificate of international engagement
certificate of international competences

The aim of the certifications international is a doubled one: at first the young particpants should be aware of their own achievements and competences. Second participations and acitivities in international projects should be eased for these young people. They can demonstrate the shown soft skills intensively.

With these commonly agreed certifications the public perception of international youth work in Germany is upgraded. Organisations of international youth work can mutually be strenghtened and bring international youth work a higher profile and qualitative acceptance.
